Our Rainbow Centre Special Education Programme caters to students with multiple disabilities and autism spectrum disorder, aged from 7 to 18 years. With RC, you can expect a rewarding career in Special Education, making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities.
Assistant Teachers will receive mentorship and training to take on teaching responsibilities, including a potential nomination to complete a sponsored Diploma in Special Education (DISE) offered by the National Institute of Education (NIE).
Critical Work Functions
1. Provide Curriculum & Instructional Excellence
-
Work with teachers to plan lessons, design activities and prepare lesson resources for effective teaching and learning

Under guidance of Teacher/Senior Teacher, deliver lessons using evidence-based pedagogy and meaningful activities, to meet the educational needs of individual students

Implement appropriate modes of assessment, under supervision, to evaluate student needs for development of appropriate individualised learning objectives and outcomes, and for adopting and adapting instructional strategies and accommodations.

Assist teachers in data collection to understand student profiles and monitor student progress so as to provide suitable feedback and implement suitable instructional support to close gaps and write student learning reports
2. Facilitate Holistic Student Development

Build a strong relationship with students by demonstrating care, concern and encouragement so as to build a physically, emotionally and socially-safe environment to enhance students’ motivation and behaviour, and opportunities for learning

Implement positive, robust classroom routines and practices that support student learning and engagement
-
Assist teachers and allied professionals to implement student behavioural plans and collect and monitor data to support interventions.

Assist teachers to manage emergency situations to resolve any immediate safety concerns and implement required processes
3. Collaborate for Optimal Student Learning & Development

Work in partnership with allied professionals and appropriate other internal stakeholders for effective planning and execution of development strategies for the student

Work in partnership with family members to support student learning across school, home and community
4. Support Programme Administration

Maintain inventories of equipment, materials and supplies

Manage administrative tasks as assigned by reporting officer

Work with Advocacy and Community Engagement (ACE) to place and mentor volunteers
-
Work with People and Culture (PC) team to mentor interns
Candidate Requirements
- Only Singaporeans and Permanent Residents
- Possesses a good Diploma or Degree, preferably in a related field, with a strong interest in the special needs community.
