The Care and Enrichment (CE) unit aims to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities through out of school hours care and enrichment programmes, of which the Good Life Boarding is one. The Good Life Boarding programme provides a close-to-authentic living space, helping participants achieve goals related to safety and independence.
The Senior Life Coach for the Good Life Boarding programme plays a key role in fostering independence among participants. This position involves developing personalized life plans that emphasize daily living skills. Additionally, the Senior Life Coach supervises junior life coaches and oversees programme management responsibilities.
Key Accountabilities
Provide Assessment of Skills and Coaching
- Formulate data-based, student-centred ILP process for students, and support their attainment of ILP goals through appropriate strategies implemented in partnership with families/caregivers, Allied Professionals and other relevant stakeholders
- Plan and deliver engaging and well-paced lessons taking account of the diverse learner profiles of students and using evidence-based pedagogy and meaningful activities, to meet the independent living needs of individual students
- Pro-actively facilitate and manage the students and learning environment to enhance motivation and behaviour, and opportunities for learning
Facilitate Holistic Student Development
- Build a strong relationship with students, providing physically, emotionally and socially-safe relationships and environments for enhancing care and facilitating of learning for the students
- Formulate data-based, student-centered ILP process for all students, and support their attainment of ILP goals through appropriate strategies implemented in partnership with families/caregivers, allied professionals and other relevant stakeholders
- Design and implement positive, robust daily living routines and practices to create and maintain a safe and conducive learning environment as well as foster student development and well-being
- Collaborate for Optimal Student Learning & Development
- Work in partnership with parents and other family members or caregivers to support student learning across school and home.
- Consult with allied professional and school teachers for effective planning and execution of development strategies for the student
- Manage communications with families to support students and/or school initiatives
Support Programme Quality and Administration
- Maintain inventories of equipment, materials and supplies
- Manage administrative tasks as assigned by reporting officer
- Maintain and monitor client records related to programme utilization in accordance to organisational and professional requirements.
Develop Self and Others for Greater Impact
- Engage in and articulate reflection and evaluation in practice, including critically evaluating the impact of contemporary issues related to the profession and sector.
- Remain up to date and compliant with all relevant legislation, organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct in order to uphold standards of best practice.
- Participate in professional learning teams to foster collaborative learning between staff members
Job Holder Requirements
- Good Diploma or Degree with Diploma in Special Education
- First-aid trained with current valid license, preferably.
- At least 5 years of experience teaching students with disabilities
