    The Job Coach plays a key role in assisting students to sustain their vocational training and attachments leading towards post school placements. He/She is responsible for providing job matching, job coaching and job support services for students in job attachments and job placements. As part of an interdisciplinary team and working closely with caregivers and employment partners, the Job Coach provides career counselling, behavioural and work performance interventions to support enriching vocational placements for students.

    Critical Work Functions

    Job Coaching and Placement

    • Vocational Readiness Assessment: Work closely with the IEP team to prepare and assess student's readiness for job attachments and job placements
    • Vocational Interest & Strengths Development: Identify and provide support to develop the students' interest and strengths in vocational areas
    • Job Coaching & Vocational Training Design: Develop and implement effective job coaching and vocational training plans, including planning for accommodations and adaptations where necessary
    • Job Placement Sourcing: Source and arrange for job attachment opportunities (school, community and/or industrial based) for students
    • Job Site Suitability Evaluation: Analyse and evaluate suitability of the job sites
    • Job Attachment Preparation: Prepare the students for job attachments
    • Vocational Documentation & Reporting: Keep records and documentation and prepare appropriate reports

    Sustainable Job Support Ecosystem

    • Work Readiness Training: Contribute to training plans and materials to conduct in-house training for students to prepare them for work, with accommodations and adaptations where necessary (e.g. travel training, interview skills, grooming skills etc, in collaboration with IEP team)
    • School-to-Work Transition Planning: Work with Transition Planning Coordinator (“TPC”) and post-school agency/employer to ensure smooth transition into School-to-Work transition programme and post school services
    • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with IEP team, caregivers, partners and employers in supporting students in their vocational training
    • Stakeholder Education & Engagement: Educate, communicate, and work collaboratively with students’ caregivers, co-workers and employers to jointly support and sustain students’ work attachment and experience
    • Vocational Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct pre-and post-vocational assessments of the students
    • Industry Partnerships & Opportunities: Plan and coordinate work exposure activities such as learning journeys and job shadowing for students

    Continuing Professional Development

    • Reflective Practice: Engage in and articulate reflection and evaluation in practice, including critically evaluating the impact of contemporary issues related to the profession and sector 
    • Compliance: Remain up to date and compliant with all relevant legislation, organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct in order to uphold standards of best practice

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Relevant Diploma with Certificate in Autism; Diploma in Special Education will be favourably considered

    • At least 2 years experience working with individuals with disabilities requiring moderate support levels

    • Prior experience in vocational training, assessment or placement will be favourably considered
